Hadih and welcome!

I am from Prince George, B.C. and I am extremely grateful that I get to teach, live, play, and learn, on the ancestral lands of the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation. I honour and respect these lands, the people, and their culture.

I love to laugh! (Mostly at my own jokes. I think I am pretty funny, just saying).

I grew up on the west side of Prince George. I have always been active. From playing hockey and softball to hiking for weeks at a time in the mountains I have always loved being active. I would also say I am an outdoor enthusiast. I value my family and friends and the relationships I have with them. I am currently in the Education program at UNBC in the elementary stream.

My family. Although there are 3 more additions not pictured.
Nick (Partner), Bowen (Nephew), and Kennedy (Niece)

As I mentioned, family is so extremely important to me. My grandmother was one of my biggest supporters and confidants. She suffered from dementia. No words can describe the impact she had on my life. Many people spend their life looking for their person and mine was my Granny. As you will learn, I was not the best student, but my granny believed in me no matter what and no matter where. When I was accepted to the program I called her and told her and her reply was “YAY!! I have no idea what that means but I know you’re going to do so well” She is one of my reasons why.

My sweet Granny and I.

I had 2 dream jobs as a kid, 1. being a mom and 2. being a teacher! Well, here I am! I have worked with children in the majority of my jobs. I volunteered at a local school and I started subbing as an uncertified substitute teacher. I fell in love with teaching as a whole. I always say kids are like little sponges, they soak up so much knowledge. I love fostering professional relationships with students and helping them grow to be the best little humans they can be! I strongly believe in and practice inclusion, communication and diversity. I aim to create a welcoming, comfortable, and growing environment in all my endeavours. As I mentioned, I was not the best student. I actually did not enjoy much of my school experience prior to the program. With that being said, when my values, opinions, and interests aligned with the content I was being taught or how I was being taught it, I fell in love with learning. Which is one of the many reasons I am excited to be a teacher. I also remember a few of my teachers and the impact they made on my education journey, and I truly believe that without them I would not be where I am today. I hope that I can impact even just one child and be a safe space for them the way my mentors have done for me.

As a student in this program, I have learned the importance of observing other teachers and I am excited to work with other people that are as passionate as I am. I feel eager to further my education and develop my skills so I can be the best teacher I can be. Although, I recognize that learning never stops because we are teaching children in a world that is ever-changing. I hope to continue fostering safe environments where all children can grow and that are focused on the students’ unique strengths and abilities.

This is little me. I always told my parents I wanted to be a teacher or a mom growing up. Here I am making my dreams come true.

Thank you for reading and coming along on this journey with me!
