On October 6th, we went to our local public library. The wonderful staff gave us a detailed tour of the entire library. They showed us where the adult section is, the early learners, teens, etc. We also got to peak at the story telling room where children can come with their parents for story time. Our tour guide showed us a ton of really amazing resources we can use in our practicums and teaching careers in general!

One of the first sections that caught my eye! I love that Indigenous knowledge is being embraced.

Personally, I did go to the Nechako branch (Which is located off the Hart Highway in Prince George) throughout high school, but I did not utilize the main branch in downtown Prince George. I felt nostalgic as I was walking in and throughout the library. I remember going there with my mom as a little kid and sitting on the people chairs they had. (There were these chairs that were laid back and they were in the shape of the human body). I was reminded today that the library not only holds so many amazing resources but is just a local gem that can be used for studying, collaborating, and a safe space in general. The main goal of this field trip was to find a book that we can base a lesson plan off of for our Education 390/405 class. I found one that sparked my interest! It is called “The Starkeeper” by Faith Prey and it is a story about spreading kindness.

I cannot wait to dive into it and see what kind of lesson plan I can come up with! Even though the main goal was to leave with a book, I left feeling very fulfilled and calm knowing that I can use the library and all the knowledge that it holds to help me in my education journey and throughout the entirety of my career. From different kinds of story kits, to online resources, the library is an amazing local resource, that I will defiantly be using.

Joey my German Shepard it very excited for me to start my first lesson plan!
